How do you view discipline and punishment within the context of your own cultural lens?

Grueling, but effective (in terms of my Asian cultural lens). As we have seen through "tiger mom" and such, Asian parents are rather... Extreme... in terms of discipline and punishment. But, it works and we do well in terms of the results; I appreciate my parent's "help" with my early education that allows me to excel currently thanks to my good foundation in various subjects (math and science if you want to get stereotypical)
