My husband and I had a huge fight and he left Sunday should I try and contact him?

I suspect my husband is having an affair, and we have been arguing and really being mean and saying hateful things to each other, including physical and verbal abuse. I called the police on him on friday and he called them on me on sunday. I left wile the police was there and when I returned home later sunday evening his suitcase was gone and I have not seen or heard from him. When I went home yesterday I could tell he had been there, because he turned the air on. I am really confused, I know I need to leave him, but I don't want to give up on my marriage,and let some Other woman have my husband. I spoke to his aunt and she said we should work on it and I should not leave,but my mom said I should.Should I contact him, change the locks, move on or what, please give me some serious advice
