How come the Republicans don't have a candidate yet?

The Republican party is in shambles right now thanks to tampering by the Religious Right. In order to get approval of the Religious Right, a candidate must not appeal in any way to moderate voters. In order to get approval of moderate voters, the candidate must not appeal in any way to the Religious Right.
